A Cabin
A cabin is a prototype for a nature retreat in Bend, Oregon. A contemporary take on the iconic A-frames of the 50’s and 60’s, the design reorients the typical axial arrangement to instead enable the small space fully open one side. This opening frames a single large indoor-outdoor deck that becomes the central feature of the design to heighten the outdoor experience on the wooded site. It also allows for multiple cabins to be carefully oriented in close proximity while preserving a sense of privacy.
Conceived as a lightweight structure set on helical piles, it is intended to be easily relocated or repositioned with limited impact on its natural surrounds.
